These photographic works form a visual narrative that highlight the notion of ‘home’ and ‘identity’ in community — specifically within a pocket of Filipino-Australians in Brisbane. This gathering of people around food form a singular bond wherein relations, association, and taste bring back past and recent everyday stories, memory, and place coming from their respective provinces in the Philippines. The Filipino word Salu-salo means ‘gathering,’ while the term halo-halo refers to mixing together, and is also the name of a wonderfully sweet, layered Filipino drink. (Pat Hoffie)
