Kay Lawrence is a Doctor of Visual Arts student at Queensland College of Art.

Her art practice critically engages with matters of personal identity, ecology, social justice, memory and contemporary cultural phenomena. Using elements of photography, digital media and textiles, she seeks ways to develop her practice to further integrate these (seemingly) disparate media through individual works and those made in collaboration with others. Her conceptual concerns as a visual artist are focussed on embracing and understanding the human condition.

In 1997 Adrian moved from Namibia to California for additional post-graduate studies, gaining a Masters in Mythological Studies and Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. He has been living in Australia since 2000, where he has also worn many hats, but is at his happiest teaching, researching and film-making.

These photographic works form a visual narrative that highlight the notion of ‘home’ and ‘identity’ in community — specifically within a pocket of Filipino-Australians in Brisbane. This gathering of people around food form a singular bond wherein relations, association, and taste bring back past and recent everyday stories, memory, and place coming from their respective provinces in the Philippines. The Filipino word Salu-salo means ‘gathering,’ while the term halo-halo refers to mixing together, and is also the name of a wonderfully sweet, layered Filipino drink.
Ian Burns (b1964, Newcastle, Australia; resides New York City, USA) puts technology to wry and witty use, employing toy vehicles and cheap consumer objects to examine the speed of modern life and test our faith in moving images.

Ian Burns’ kinetic dioramas and video feed works have engaged with subjects as diverse as the war in Iraq, TV culture, colonialism, and art history. Using plain wood and primitive electronics, and often incorporating household objects and other assorted junk, Burns creates absurdly convoluted mechanisms whose purpose is to produce a simple moving image on a screen, either by live video fed to a monitor, or as a shadow theater-like diorama.
